Chasing the Wind Meaningless! Meaningless! Everything is utterly meaningless! Vanity, of vanities! Everything is utter vanity! Generations come and go But the world just keeps on turning The sun comes up, and down it goes, and it just keeps on burning. All streams flow into the sea But the sea never seems to spill The eye can’t get enough of seeing The ear will never get its fill I had my time of sowing oats Then I set my mind to wisdom the same fate awaits the fool and sage but perhaps the wise will listen The wind blows south and then turns north It circles back where it began There’s nothing new under the sun What has been will be again There’s a time to be born (rock-a-bye baby) There’s a time to die (rest from your labor) There’s a time to plant (sow in your weeping) And a time to harvest (bring in the sheaves) There’s a time to cry And a time to laugh A time to grieve And a time to dance (get your groove on)

Find Your Rest The sun’s coming up, over the mountain It’s an hour late, but who is countin? The temp’s gonna rise, it’s no surprise at all The crows are fussin, the bugs are buzzin now. Black clouds rolling down the hollow The wind and the rain are bound to follow The creek’s gonna rise, it’s no surprise at all Lightning flashing, thunder crashing now A day is long, but a life is brief Perhaps the sunset brings relief Lay your weary body down find your rest while it may be found Full moon rises as the sun goes down Evening shadows fall over the ground The fireflies rise, it’s no surprise at all The night is fallin, the owls start calling now

So Pass the Seasons snow moon wanes and with her, winter. gone, the old man's icy breath. warm breeze lifts the dying sliver – blossoms growing underneath. Spring rises and Summer flies Fall fades and winter falls so pass the seasons and so go the years Spring rises and Summer flies Fall fades and winter falls so passes time, and people grow older and grow. Harvest moon waxes, days grow shorter Summer sighs it’s dying breath. Cool breeze rustles the changing leaves Autumn colors underneath. When did we get so old? So tired? So tame? If we could go back, we’d probably do it the same. We were like Clydesdales, pulling the party, Now we’re just tired old mules Pulling the plow. here we are, where we were, back from where we've been Once we did, still we do, and will someday again.

Memento Mori 03:42
Memento Mori What is your life? What of your years? You’re like a mist that exists for a moment, And then disappears. we may get ten and three-score Or maybe four if our strength will endure But they pass by quickly So the best of them are trouble and tears. Remember your death Your life will adjourn You were made from the dust And to dust you’ll return all folk are like the grass The grass withers when the day has passed The wind blows over it And it returns to the earth A thousand years in his sight Are like a day gone by like a watch in the night Teach us to number our days So that we might be wise In all of our ways Remember your death Your life will adjourn You were made from the dust And to dust you’ll return

There Was a Time I used to rock-hop the river In my Chuck Taylor high tops to boot I’d land with precision after airborne decisions on where I should put down my foot Now the river’s grown wily and rapid, And the soles of my shoes have grown slick It’s the high road I’ll follow, It’s a hard pill to swallow, The old dog can’t do his old tricks But there was a time, there was a time All of life was ahead and there wasn’t a care on my mind There was a time, there was a time Now the past just keeps calling me, and I have to leave it behind. Now the young man, he can’t comprehend it How a man would resign to grow old My arse has grown flat, and my belly’s grown fat But the cuffs of my trousers are rolled Even though so much is taken Still there is much that remains Sand through my fingers, but the memories linger Even while the Harvest Moon wanes I cannot rest from travel I will drink life to the lees I will tell all the stories, and bask in past glories Until I’m at rest ‘neath the trees Still there is life that needs living There are challenges yet to be won I will live in the now, and move forward somehow There is noble work yet to be done

So Many Days 03:32
So Many Days I’ve got so many days yet to live Only so many days My lips got so many kisses to give Only so many kisses My feet got so many miles yet to walk Only so many miles My heart got so many smiles left to share Only so many smiles Only so many days yet to live Only so many kisses to give I’ve got so many wrongs to forgive Only so many wrongs My eyes got so many sunsets to see Only so many sunsets I’ve got so many places to be Only so many places I’ve got so many wishes to wishes Only so many wishes My wife’s got so many dishes to wash Only so many dishes Only so many sunsets to see Only so many places to be My ears got so many songs yet to hear Only so many songs I’ve got so many wrongs to forgive Only so many wrongs I’ve got so many songs yet to sing Only so many songs

Note to Self 04:40
Note to Self Who can add a day to his life? Who can end the toil and strife By worrying? Who can add an inch to his height Who can grow his power and might By worrying? Don’t worry about tomorrow It’ll worry about itself Each day has enough sorrow of its own Come if you are weary My load is light And you will find rest for your soul See the flowers dressed to the nines The greatest king was never dressed so fine Stop worrying. See the birds flitting so free They sing their songs from every tree They don’t worry You never know what tomorrow will bring You never know if you will cry or sing Why worry? You never know what lies around the bend The best laid schemes of mice and men… … gang aft agley

Coffee Spoons and Paschal Moons Gather close, my dusty friends Sip the cup of conversation As deep to deep the calls go forth And iron sharpens iron Remove the beam that’s in my eye And I’ll remove your splinter Huddle ‘round the Lenten fire And bid farewell to Winter Mingled smoke, and blossoma’ scent Prayer and resurrection wisping upward toward the morn The dawn of our redemption Smudge my pride with ash and oil Teach me rightly numbered days I’ll count my friends with coffee spoons And measure life by Paschal Moons
